The Secret Garden's "Grand Opening Celebration" to celebrate the opening of our second location

Here is the invitation from Jennifer Kahl, owner of The Secret Garden, to the public for the event we will be at on June 12 in Elk Grove:

Please be our guest, and spend a day among friends, at the "Grand Opening Celebration" of our new store on Saturday, June 12th. As always, we'll be serving up some yummy treats, and introducing you to some of our newest favorite things.

I want you to be the first to see the new line of floral wreaths we're launching by local designer Ray Bayles. This is a beautiful line of locally crafted, whimsical wreaths at amazingly great prices. Many of you may remember Ray from his store, Old Town Creations, on Elk Grove Blvd. Well, I'm proud to feature his designs in our new store and I know you're going to love adding his pieces into your decor.

Also at the grand opening is Mad Man Bamboo and Maplewood Garden.

Mad Man Bamboo is a small family owned bamboo specialty nursery that was recently featured in the Sacramento Bee's Home and Garden section. The owner, Sean Bigley, will be on hand to provide expert advice on running and clumping bamboo and will have several varieties of bamboo plants for sale. More on Mad Man Bamboo can be found at www.madmanbamboo.com.

Maplewood Garden is a small Japanese Maple nursery owned by Jim Lombard. Jim has been growing Japanese Maples for years and will be on hand to answer your questions on these beautiful trees. Jim will also have several varieties of Japanese Maples for sale and can help you select the perfect pot for container growing.

An amazing new line of
wind chimes inspired and designed by Nora Matthes-Kniveton of Transient~Treasures will be available at the party. Nora uses vintage tea-pots among other items to create one of a kind chimes for the garden. Her work has been showcased at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco and we're thrilled to have her share her work with you at The Secret Garden.

Come enjoy a little
Secret Garden hospitality and let us show you around our new store. The garden will be full of new fountains and pottery and we'll have pictures of our past, our present, and our future to share with you. Nibble, sip and enjoy special "Grand Opening Celebration" discounts from 10am til to 3 pm.

We'll have lots of door prizes to give away too, so bring a friend to share the fun!

Bamboo as a privacy screen in Joe's backyard...

Joe, a customer, who purchased Phylostachys bissetti and Phylostachys nigra 'Black Bamboo' sent me photos of how he used bamboo in his backyard. He built some really nice self-contained boxes to hold his running bamboo, large enough to get some good growth on these really nice varieties.

In his message, Joe said, "Some of the culms have literally shot up 6’ in probably 2-3 weeks. Not joking. Some of the plants are spreading out and others are shooting up. This stuff is awesome."

Thanks Joe for sharing your project. Looks great.
